Matthew W. Naparty
Matt is an accomplished appellate attorney and litigation strategist with 25 years of experience handling complex, high-stakes litigation in state and federal courts. Over the course of his career, he has prepared and argued thousands of significant pretrial and post-trial motions and appeals, including matters before the New York Court of Appeals, the state's highest court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. His name appears on hundreds of reported judicial decisions spanning a broad range of legal disciplines and jurisdictions.
Known for his sound legal analysis, practical judgment, and creative approach to complex legal issues, Matt is regularly called upon to provide appellate counsel and results-oriented guidance in high-exposure and legally challenging matters. He works closely with the firm's diverse clientele—including major insurance carriers, Fortune 500 companies, businesses of all sizes, hospitals, and individuals—as well as other attorneys seeking his expertise at every stage of litigation.
Matt is particularly valued for his ability to identify critical legal issues, assess litigation risk, and develop creative, practical solutions. He also frequently participates in mediations, where his objective assessment of case value, command of the law, and pragmatic approach have earned him a reputation as the "voice of reason" in the room.
Recognizing that effective appellate advocacy often begins well before a verdict, Matt developed the firm's National Active Trial Monitoring Program, which integrates experienced appellate counsel into high-stakes trials across the country.
Unlike traditional monitoring counsel, MLN's appellate attorneys actively collaborate with trial counsel and clients to develop trial strategy, identify and preserve critical legal issues, prepare dispositive and other trial motions, and protect the appellate record. This proactive approach provides an independent appellate perspective throughout trial, positioning cases for the strongest possible outcome—both at trial and on appeal.
In 2011, Long Island Business News recognized him among its 40 Under 40 honorees. He was selected as a New York Metro "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers in 2011 and 2012, a distinction awarded to no more than 2.5% of eligible attorneys in the region. From 2013 through 2026, he has been selected annually as a New York Metro "Super Lawyer," an honor reserved for no more than 5% of attorneys in the region.
From 2010 through 2015, Matt served as an appointed member of the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Courts of Appellate Jurisdiction, which evaluates appellate court practices and procedures, considers proposed improvements, and reviews potential amicus curiae submissions.
Matt earned his Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law, where he was named to the Dean's List and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society.
He received his undergraduate degree from the City University of New York's Brooklyn College.
Matt is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as before:
